hand holding dentures dental restorationsThe first goal of dentistry is to prevent dental problems through routine hygiene and checkups. But when problems do occur, restorative dentistry is intended to repair or replace damaged teeth, renew your dental function, and improve your self-confidence. There are many different types of dental restorations to choose from. The right treatment for you will depend on various factors, including the number of teeth to be treated, whether you are missing teeth, and your overall dental health.

At Metropolitan Dental Care in Denver, CO, our team of dentists offer a complete range of restorative services, from simple fillings to full implant-supported dentures. With our digital x-rays and cone beam CT scanners, we can provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend the perfect treatment to fit your needs. And whichever of our dental restorations you receive, you are sure to enjoy beautifully lifelike results.

Fillings

Fillings are the most conservative of dental restorations, designed to treat small to medium-sized cavities. To place a filling, your dentist will remove any decayed and damaged tissue from inside your tooth. Then he or she will apply composite resin in layers, carefully filling in the space. Composite is wonderfully lifelike, and your dentist will choose the perfect shade to match the color of your smile. Unlike traditional metal fillings, composite will not cause discoloration of your tooth over time.

Crowns

Crowns are tooth-shaped restorations intended to strengthen more severely decayed or damaged teeth. To attach a crown, your doctor will reshape your damaged tooth and create room for the crown to sit securely on top. Then he or she will take digital impressions, which our partner lab will use to create your restoration. Once it is finished, your dentist will fix it to your tooth with composite.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays fall midway between fillings and crowns. If you have a large cavity, but it is not big enough to merit a crown, an inlay or onlay may be the solution. These custom-designed restorations will fit over the top chewing surface of your molar. An inlay will sit in between the cusps of your tooth, while an onlay will extend partway down the side of your tooth.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge can replace one to three adjacent missing teeth. Most dental bridges are made with two abutment teeth. These are crowns that will fit over the two teeth on either side of the space in your smile. In between are pontics, or full artificial teeth. As with crowns, your dentist will need to reshape the teeth that will uphold the restoration.

Dental Implants

Implants are considered the most advanced tooth replacement option, and they offer benefits that no other dental restorations can provide. Our board-certified periodontist, Dr. Mike Norouzinia will surgically place implant posts in your jawbone. As the bone heals, the posts will integrate with the surrounding tissue to become a permanent part of your oral anatomy. Once you have healed, Dr. Norouzinia can attach a crown, bridge, or even full denture to your implant posts
